Frequently Asked Questions

How is my Proper Portrait shipped?

Proper Portraits are shipped via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail, and orders should arrive 1-4 Business Days from the day your portrait is shipped. Delivery is dependent on FedEx and USPS, and can be subject to weather delays.

Is shipping really free?

Yes! Shipping is F-R-E-E for orders shipped in the U.S.A.

What differentiates Proper Portraits from other portraiture options?

Proper Portraits reimagines traditional portraiture making it more accessible and affordable. We create beautiful portraits at a competitive price point without giving up quality. Our portraits genuinely capture the likeness and personality of each of our subjects. We are your alternative to the costly and lengthy process of other portrait options. Additionally, our portraits complement the modern home regardless of your style or taste.

How long does the whole process take?

The Proper Portraits process will take 3-4 weeks once our team receives your photograph by email.

Where is my order?

Check your email for the FedEx or USPS Tracking Number provided to you at the time your portrait was shipped. Feel free to send us an email at support@properportraits.com with any questions regarding your order!

May I return my Proper Portrait?

Due to the personalized nature of portraiture, Proper Portraits are final sale items upon order submission. We do not offer refunds to your original form of payment, but Proper Portraits credit may be awarded in certain situations. Please contact our team at support@properportraits.com if you are dissatisfied with your order.

What kind of picture should I send Proper Portraits?

Our artists recommend photographs sharply in focus with good lighting. Simple backgrounds work best. Our team will communicate to customers via email if the provided picture is not suitable for a portrait. We do not accept digital pictures of printed photographs, nor do we recommend older digital photographs. Please reach out to support@properportraits.com if you are unsure if your photo will make a good Proper Portrait.

What type of clothing do you recommend for children or adults to wear in the submitted photo?

We recommend simple, light-colored clothing, free from busy designs or patterns.

What type of file and file size should I email?

Please email a JPG (or JPEG) file with the highest resolution possible. Most phones default to this file type when sending an email, so you can email directly from your photo library.

May I order additional copies of my Proper Portrait?

Yes, Proper Portraits make great gifts for loved ones (especially grandparents)! On the Shop’s product page, toggle the Proper Package drop-down to select up to 3 additional prints when placing your order. Email our team at support@properportraits.com if you would like to purchase more prints than are available on the product page.

Does Proper Portraits accept photographs of animals?

Of course we do! Our team would be thrilled to customize a portrait for all of your furry friends.

What art medium is my Proper Portrait?

Proper Portraits are the combination of digital editing and hand-drawn artistry. The completed portraits are digitally printed at the highest quality and inspected by our team of artists.

What if I would like to make changes to my Proper Portrait after it is completed?

Due to our process and the cost-effective nature of our portraits in comparison to traditional portraiture, we accept full artistic license when creating a Proper Portrait. Please communicate any important detail that is meaningful to you upon submission of your photograph. Once submitted, our team is accorded leeway of their interpretation of the customer’s submitted photograph, and is not held strictly accountable for accuracy. While our team is grateful for all feedback, all completed portraits are final sale.

May I send a photograph with multiple subjects?

Yes! Proper Portraits is now offering group portraits, ranging from two to six subjects.

What is the difference between a Group Portrait and a Deluxe Group Portrait?

A Group Portrait is designed for 2-3 subjects, while our Deluxe Group Portrait is reserved for 4-6 subjects. The Deluxe Group Portrait is our most custom option, and our artists work closely with customers throughout the process.

May I order a Mini Portrait with more than one subject?

At this time, Minis are exclusively single subject portraits.  If you have a special exception request, please email our team at support@properportraits.com.

Does every Mini Portrait come framed?

No, our Mini Portraits are sold separately from the add-on frame options available in our shop. You may choose to purchase a frame only, a frame with the portrait assembled in it, or an assembled, framed portrait with gift wrapping (a must for the holiday season!).

I received my order, but an item was damaged. What should I do?

We are happy to help with damaged items. Please email pictures, a brief description of the damage, the order number and your shipping information to support@properportraits.com. We will follow-up with next steps as soon as possible.

Do you offer international shipping?

Yes, international orders will be shipped via USPS, and the shipping cost will be paid by the customer. These orders are subject to customs clearance, which may cause delays beyond provided delivery estimates. Don’t see your country you need to ship to? Please contact support@properportraits.com, and we will add it for you.
